Bridge Academy of West Houston and Apple Games are Moving

Bridge Academy of West Houston has announced that they are moving. Effective Tuesday, September 29 all games will be held at 9800 Richmond, Suite 120, along with several enhancements to their weekly schedule including Saturday morning games being introduced on October 24. In addition, the Monday, and Friday Apple I and Apple II games currently held at the Tracy Gee Community Center will be hosted at BAWH’s new location. Due to higher costs at their new home, game fees will be increasing to $10. For more information, click here .

In Memory of Sandy Clark

A member of Unit 174, Sandy Clark, passed away on August 28th. A celebration of life for her will be held on Saturday September 26th at St Stephens Episcopal Church, 1805 W Alabama St, Houston at 11:00 am. Her obituary can be read here.

Delay in Membership and Masterpoints Updates

There is a delay on updates from the ACBL this month. The ACBL is working on the problem and Unit 174 will be updated at that time.

Congratulations Lauri Laufman!

Lauri Laufman, our Unit 174 President, was awarded the District 16 Oswald & James Jacoby Service Award at the Richardson Regional. The Jacoby Award is the premier service award presented by the district. Established in 1982 it is designed to honor volunteers who have worked diligently at the unit level and risen to recognition at the district level after many years of service.

Special 0-99 Future Life Master (FLM) Game

Whether you are a social bridge player, have barely started playing or are fully immersed into duplicate bridge, this game is for you! It will be held at the Trini Mendenhall Community Center, 1414 Wirt Road in centrally located Spring Branch. Click the button on the right for details.

Betty and Milton Freedman Lone Star Regional 2027

Our 2027 Regional, January 25–31, will again be held at the Marriott Houston Westchase. Unit 174 listened to your feedback and are confident you’ll love the playing schedule. The Marriott reservation link is also available if you and your friends would like to book a room. As previously posted, thanks to the Freedman family’s generous $10,000 commitment, our tournament has been named in honor and memory of Betty and Milton Freedman. Both were well-known, accomplished players and devoted countless hours as volunteers in our bridge community. More about Betty and Milton will be shared soon.

And there’s more good news: Marsha Bernstein has graciously agreed to take care of Event Naming and Sponsorships again this year and you can now name an event or a whole day during our LSR in someone’s honor or memory!   • The Bridge Academy of West Houston is located at Arabia Shrine Center, 10510 Harwin Dr., Houston, TX 77036. Weekly Open games are held on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m., 299r games on Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. and Open and 99er pair games on Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. A monthly Swiss game is held on one Sunday (date to be announced) at 1:30 p.m., and a monthly Mentor/Mentee game typically takes place on the first Tuesday of each month at 10:30 a.m. Cost is $7 for most games.
